The Job: The Education Programs Associate is responsible for delivering engaging programming for educational and community partners, focusing on revenue-positive engagements both off-site and within the Museum delivering programming to youth and families as well as supporting general education operations.
This is a part-time position requiring weekend and occasional evening availability.
Responsibilities:
- Deliver engaging and dynamic STEAM programming for youth and families, K-12 student, educators and beyond with a focus on revenue-positive programs such as STEAM clubs, Innovation Studios, and Curiosity Stations.
- Collaborate and support the team's efforts in design software applications and machinery and STEAM-related content that is responsive to client expectations or needs (i.e. Inkscape, TinkerCad, Prusa, Retinaengrave, Fusion Edge).
- Research and participate in the development of high-quality K-12 STEAM programming.
- Test, evaluate, and improve upon existing programming.
- Represent Griffin MSI as a community liaison and demonstrate programs for media outlets as required.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- One (1) to two (2) years of experience facilitating STEAM-focused programs or program development in informational learning settings required.
- High school diploma or GED required; any advanced education is a plus.
- Flexible and adaptable with the ability to respond to unexpected circumstances, improvise solutions on short notice, and adapting programs to different audiences.
- Ability to safely operate high-tech fabrication equipment and materials associated with programming.
- Capacity to quickly learn new programming and master a catalog of programs and facilitation methodologies. May include design software applications and machinery, and STEAM-related content that is responsive to client expectations or needs.
- Ability to safely operate and demonstrate use of high-tech lab and fabrication (Maker Space) equipment and materials associated with programming.
- Must be able to travel for programming within Chicagoland (regularly) and long-distances (occasionally).
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
- Language:
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as operating and procedure manuals.
- Ability to speak effectively before groups of employees of the organization.
- Mathematical:
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as addition, subtraction, percentages, etc.
- Reasoning:
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, or schedule form.
- Physical:
- Ability to perform various functions such as standing, sitting, walking/moving across uneven surfaces, climbing stairs, lifting, pushing, carrying, seeing in varying light conditions, fine finger dexterity, and participating in some physical activities.
- The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
- Work Environment:
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
