The Job: The Director, Learning and Engagement leads diverse STEAM programming for youth, families, and educators, delivering engaging in-person, offsite, and virtual experiences. This role unifies education teams, ensuring alignment with Museum goals through collaboration with internal departments and community partners. This role will foster partnerships with corporations and organizations as well as primary, secondary, and post-secondary educational institutions to expand the Museum's impact locally, regionally, and nationally.
This is a hybrid position requiring occasional weekend, evening events and programs availability.
Responsibilities
- Direct the management evidence and needs-based strategies to engage active STEAM educators and professionals with Museum audiences.
- Initiate and steward relationships with individuals who are community stakeholders for potential partnerships and/or revenue opportunities.
- Align assigned programs to Education department goals and coordinate programming design and facilitation within the department.
- Manage a diverse team of Museum educators, occasional contract staff, seasonal interns, and other volunteers and community partners as needed.
- Ensure the team is working towards delivering on the department's KPI's (Key Performance Indicators) and that team performance is in alignment with the department's established cultural norms and vision.
- Actively participate as a member of the Education leadership team, leveraging resources and ensuring integration with other program areas and initiatives across the division and Museum.
- Partner with Education leadership to strategically plan and scale programs for various audiences.
- Collaborate with Education leadership, Finance, and Marketing teams on the Museum's earned education revenue plan, specifically the department's targets, tracking expenses and monthly revenue (where applicable), supporting new program and business development, and evaluating impact and initiating change appropriately.
- Lead and collaborate on grant proposals to government, foundation, corporate, and individual funding entities to support departmental and division-wide initiatives.
- Represent the Museum for external, local, national, and international stakeholders including speaking engagements, conference presentations, advisory committees, and others.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree and ten (10) years of related experience and/or training in STEM or STEAM education required.
- Master's degree is a plus.
- Minimum of four (4) years' experience successfully managing diverse teams.
- Strong background in designing, implementing, and managing informal education programming.
- Proven experience with building teams and developing talent.
- Demonstrated ability to manage budgets, develop P&L's and routinely assess ROI and mission/margin alignment.
- Proficient in MS Office required; familiarity with Google platforms a plus.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to create materials for presentations as needed.
- Bilingual in Spanish a plus.
- Ability to occasionally work hours outside of regular business hours (i.e., weekend, after-hour events, offsite events) as required to support and/or supervise programming.
- Must have reliable transportation to be able to attend offsite meetings or programs.
- Must have a valid driver's license.
- Language:
- Ability to read, write, and interpret documents such as reports and correspondence.
- Ability to speak effectively before groups of employees of the organization.
- Mathematical:
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
- Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
- Reasoning:
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concreate variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, or schedule form.
- Physical:
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and talk or hear.
- The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms.
- The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; and taste or smell.
- The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
- Work Environment:
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
The salary range for this position is $100,000 - $110,000.
